Escher Waltz
Ron Lopata
Canada

‘Escher’s Waltz’ is a neoclassical piano piece inspired by M.C. Escher’s works Relativity and Waterfall. Reflecting Escher’s paradoxes, the melody recurs three times, shifting by a semitone—starting in A, moving to A-flat, and ending in B-flat. Seamless transitions evoke continuous movement, much like Escher’s impossible architecture, creating a melodic waltz that balances form and illusion.
